Consumer Unit Installation and Repair in Lisbon

Consumer Unit Installation and Repair in Lisbon

Replacement of old units, tripping resolved and phase balancing.

Consumer Unit Specialists

The consumer unit is the brain of your installation. An obsolete or badly sized unit does not protect against overloads, putting your safety and the life of your appliances at risk.

Replacing Old Units

Replacing Old Units

Still have a unit with screw-in fuses?

Very old units no longer offer the protection needed for today’s loads. We replace obsolete units with modern solutions using MCBs and high-sensitivity RCDs. We guarantee effective protection against electric shock and prevent irreparable damage to your electronic equipment.

  • Old unit removed
  • New unit installed
  • Modern breakers
  • RCD protection
Resolving Constant Tripping

Resolving Constant Tripping

Does switching on the oven and the heater cut the power?

Frequent tripping is the main symptom of an undersized electrical installation. We assess your home’s current load, identify which circuit is under strain and balance the phases. If necessary, we prepare the installation so you can request a power upgrade from your distributor (E-Redes).

  • Overload diagnosis
  • Circuit balancing
  • Weak breakers replaced
  • Preparation for a power upgrade
Organising and Labelling Circuits

Organising and Labelling Circuits

Do you know exactly what each switch turns off?

Many consumer units are a tangle of wires with no labelling at all. A well-organised unit is vital for working safely in the future. We tidy the internal wiring and label every circuit correctly (Kitchen Sockets, Living Room Lighting, AC, and so on), leaving everything clean and easy to read.

  • Cable management
  • Clear labelling
  • Torque checks
  • Trip testing

Frequently Asked Questions (Consumer Units)

How long does it take to change a whole consumer unit?

A complete consumer unit replacement in a typical home (two or three bedrooms) usually takes between 4 and 6 hours. During that time the power has to be switched off completely.

Does EDP/E-Redes have to come to my home to change the unit?

No. Replacing the unit downstream of the meter is the client’s responsibility and must be carried out by a Certified Electrician. E-Redes only deals with the meter and the external supply.

What is an RCD and why do I need one?

The RCD is the component that detects earth leakage (for example, if someone touches a bare wire or the washing machine leaks to its casing) and cuts the power almost instantly, saving lives.

My breaker makes a strange buzzing noise. Is it dangerous?

Yes. A buzzing sound or a burning smell coming from the consumer unit means overheating and poor internal contact. You should contact us immediately to prevent a fire starting.
